Elephants- phonics screening check1 June 2026 (by Miss Rowland (elephants)) |
The Year One phonics screening check will take place next week, week commencing 8th June.
The Year One phonics screening check will take place next week, week commencing 8th June. This is nothing for you or your child to worry about, we are sure that they will do their best and put the decoding strategies we have taught them to good use!
This week's phonics pet homework will be the screening check paper from last year. We would like you to go through this with your child asking them to identify the special friends and then to fred talk the words as we demonstrated in the workshop earlier this year. If you need to split the paper into a few chunks to get through it, that is absolutely fine.
Other things you can do to support:
- Flashcard practice. Using the flashcards school provided you with, practice going through the sounds. Turn it into a game eg. hiding the flashcards around the house for them to find, playing a memory game (using a few at a time , take one away and they have to spot which sound is missing)
- Follow the link below to play 'dragon's den' Children practice reading the word and identifying whether it is real or nonsense.
Thank you for your continued partnership; we are so proud of what the children have achieved this year and this is a chance for them to show off what they know!
If you have any questions about the above or screening check in general, please do not hesitate to contact us.
