Sheep - Autumn 1

4 September 2026 (by Grace Lee (Sheep23))

I hope you are all well and are excited for the year ahead! We certainly are.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are really looking forward to welcoming you and your children to Reception next week!

Settling Into School

During the first few weeks, we will have a staggered start to help the children settle into school life. This also gives us the opportunity to get to know each child individually and support them as they begin their school journey. Your child’s individual start date was shared with you before the summer holidays.

Dropping Off

Children will be welcome to come up the ramp from 8:40am. Miss Walton will be available to support any children who may be finding the separation difficult and to answer any questions.

We encourage parents and carers to say a quick goodbye and then leave, as this can help to prevent children from becoming unsettled or dysregulated. Arriving five minutes before the rest of the school allows us to keep the children calm and settled while they say goodbye to their families.

After the first two weeks, children will come up the ramp at 8:45am, alongside the rest of the school. Miss Walton will continue to be available to support children who need it. We will let you know when this change takes place via the school app/Evidence Me.

I will also be available at the end of the day should you have any questions.

Collecting Your Child

At the end of the school day, we will bring the children down the school ramp and dismiss them individually.

Please do not call your child over. We want to make sure that every child gets to their parent or carer safely. We may also have important messages to pass on, so it is important that we speak directly to you.

If you have a question or would like to speak to me, please wait until all of the children have been dismissed. We can sometimes be a little slow with this process at the beginning of the school year, so please bear with us — we promise we will get quicker!

Knowledge Organiser and Big Question

Each child has been given a copy of their Knowledge Organiser, which contains important information about the learning and experiences planned for the term ahead.

Our Big Question for Autumn 1 is:

“What makes me, me?”

The Knowledge Organiser also includes a pre-learning task for your child to complete. Once they have completed it, please bring it into school so that they can share it with us.

Each child also took home a Wow Moment letter before the holidays. Please send these in when complete, the children love sharing what they have been up to with their friends.

Family Photograph

Please send your child into school with a paper copy of a family photograph.

The children love talking about who is in their family during circle time, and we will also display the photographs in our Home Corner.

P.E. Kits

In Reception, the children will get changed for P.E. in school.

PE kits should include:

  • A white T-shirt
  • Black joggers or black shorts
  • Trainers or plimsolls

Please ensure that every item is clearly labelled with your child’s name. If clothing becomes lost, it can be very difficult for us to identify who it belongs to.

Water Bottles and Snack

Every child needs to bring their own water bottle to school each day. Please ensure that the bottle contains water only.

We have snack every day in Reception. The children have the opportunity to have milk and a piece of fruit.

If your child would prefer to bring their own fruit, this is absolutely fine. Please ensure that it is fresh fruit rather than sweets or other treats.

For safety reasons, if you are sending grapes, please ensure that they are cut in half.

Evidence Me

We use Evidence Me to share snapshots of your child’s learning journey with you.

There is also a chat facility within Evidence Me, so if you have any questions, please feel free to send them to me through there.

Outdoor Learning and Clothing

We spend a lot of time outdoors in F2, so please make sure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather.

Please ensure that coats are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Useful Information

Attached to this message is a URL link. When you click on it, you will be able to access the Medium-Term Plan (MTP), Sticky Vocabulary and Knowledge Organiser for the term ahead.

These documents show the learning we will be focusing on and help us to plan the lessons and experiences for the children.

There are also other useful sections within the Sheep Class page, including homework support and guidance.

Under the Letters tab you will find a timetable overview of what Autumn 1 looks like day to day in F2. There is also a digital copy of the Wow Moment letter.

Please make sure we are aware of any allergies or medication your child has.

Most Importantly...

The most important part of Autumn 1 in Reception is helping the children to:

  • Settle into school
  • Build positive relationships with adults and their new friends
  • Feel happy, safe and confident
  • Have lots of fun!

We look forward to seeing you next week!

Kind regards,

Miss Lee and Miss Walton
