Homework
Pre-Learning Task
Below you will find details of the pre-learning task for our second Big Question topic about the continent of North America.
The deadline for completing your pre-learning task is Friday 20th November. Merits will be awarded for extra effort.
I look forward to reading your fact files!
Padlet Task!
I have added a task to padlet for pupils to respond to and consider our Big Question from last half-term, 'What legacy did the ancient Greeks leave us?' We have discussed in class what 'legacy' means and considered the ways the ancient Greeks still have an impact today. Discuss what you think the legacy of the ancient Greeks is with your grown-ups and then add a comment to our padlet board by following the link or using the QR code.
Merits will be awarded to pupils who respond. Some of our Dragons are close to achieving their green merit badge.

Homework
Weekly Homework
Pupils in Year 5 are expected to complete the following homework each week:
- A minimum of 15 minutes TT Rockstars (A minimum of 1 attempt on Studio).
- Learn weekly spellings.
- A minimum of 30 minutes reading (it would be extremely beneficial to your child if you could listen to them read for 10 minutes each week).
Within your child's Accelerated Reader login they will have comprehension quizzes to complete when they've finished a book. These quizzes help them to reach their target in their reading for each term. Your child will be given time in class to complete an Accelerated Reader Quiz and will be encouraged to meet 100% by the end of the half term so that they can be rewarded.
Key Stage Two - Reading at Home Certificates
As part of our commitment to make sure that children read as much as possible, the staff in Key Stage 2 have come up with a uniform approach to awarding certificates. It is hoped that this will give reading a boost and encourage children to read more frequently, at home.
EVERY child can find something they enjoy reading, it's just a case of finding what genre is right for them!
The certificates are as follows:
25 - Bronze / 50 - Silver / 75 - Gold / 100 - Platinum / 150 - Platinum Plus / 200 - Diamond / 300 - Commended / 400 - Outstanding.
Should your child reach the magical 500, then Mrs. Sweeney will buy them a book of their choice!
